Why hire an editor?

Every book—and I mean every book—needs an editor. If you intend to publish traditionally, your manuscript should be as good as you can make it prior to querying agents or publishers. Good editing can be the make-or-break moment for an agent or publisher's decision. If you intend to self-publish, an editor is going to help make sure your book is ready for the eyes of readers. Just because you aren't working with a publisher doesn't mean your book can't be edited with love and care.

What can I expect an edit from you to be like?

It varies depending on the kind of editing your manuscript needs. Find out more about the different kinds of editing I offer and get a sense of my editorial style on my editorial services page. But in all cases, my edits are thorough, thoughtful, and always pushing toward the greater goal of making your manuscript the best it can be. I’m not here to tear your work apart with a metaphorical red pen, but to encourage you and to improve your work. I won’t just tell you what’s not working; I’ll show you why it’s not working, give suggestions for how to make it better, and also show you what you’re doing exactly right. What kinds of books do you work with?

I work with books across genres and age groups, both fiction and nonfiction. I have a particular love for romance and YA, so if that’s your thing, I’m interested.

How soon can I expect the edit back?

It depends in part on the length and scope of the manuscript, but it generally takes 3 to 4 weeks.

How should my documents be formatted?

Documents should be in .doc or .docx format (not PDF). Please save the document with your last name somewhere in the file name. My preference for font is 12-pt Times New Roman or something very similar, and double-spaced.

How do I pay you?

Glad you asked. I accept PayPal!

Um, what do I pay you?

My editorial rates follow the industry standard. Each editing project will vary depending on the timeline we establish, the length of the manuscript, and the amount of editing required (light versus intensive copyedit, for instance). If you have questions, please contact me and we can discuss payment plans further. I’m here to help!
